The Tower
Upright
sudden upheaval, revelation, false structures falling
Lightning strikes the tower and the crown blows off it. This is the abrupt collapse of something built on a premise that was not true — and the shock is real, but so is the fact that only the false part falls. Upright, the Tower is change that arrives without permission. It is rarely welcome and it is almost always clarifying: what remains standing afterward can be trusted.
Reversed
delayed collapse, disaster averted, slow unravelling
Reversed, the lightning is either postponed or already passing. You may be bracing against a fall you can feel coming, or holding a structure together at increasing cost. Sometimes it marks the near miss. Sometimes it is the tower coming down in slow motion, which is not gentler — only longer.
