The Hierophant
Upright
tradition, teaching, belonging, the established way
The Hierophant sits between pillars like the High Priestess, but everything he knows is meant to be said aloud and handed on. He is institutions at their best: the accumulated practice of people who went first. Upright, he favours the proven method, the teacher, the group you formally join — the humility of learning a form before you improvise on it.
Reversed
dogma, breaking with convention, hollow ritual
Reversed, the form has outlived the meaning. The rules are still recited but nobody remembers why, or the institution is protecting itself rather than the people inside it. This is often the card of leaving — a faith, a field, a family expectation — and finding that the tradition cannot answer the question you actually have.
Every draw here is a real quantum draw — The Hierophant is one of the 78 you might get, and a friend of your choosing reads it aloud.
