The Hermit
Upright
solitude, searching, inner light, withdrawal
An old man alone on a peak, holding up a lantern with a single star inside it. He has stepped back from the noise deliberately, and his light reaches only a few feet ahead — enough for the next step, which is all anyone gets. Upright, the Hermit asks for chosen solitude: the retreat that lets you hear yourself think, and the willingness to go slowly by a small light.
Reversed
isolation, avoidance, refusing help
Reversed, withdrawal has stopped serving you. Solitude has become isolation, or you have been alone with a question so long it has curdled. It can also mean the opposite — so much noise and company that reflection has become impossible. Either way, the lantern is being refused: yours, or someone else's offered to you.
Every draw here is a real quantum draw — The Hermit is one of the 78 you might get, and a friend of your choosing reads it aloud.
