The Hanged Man
Upright
suspension, surrender, new perspective
He hangs upside down from a living tree, and his face is peaceful — he chose this. The Hanged Man is the pause that cannot be rushed, in which the only available progress is a change of view. Upright, it counsels letting go of the struggle for a while: the thing you are trying to force is one you will see differently, and solve differently, from where you are hanging.
Reversed
stalling, martyrdom, a pause overstayed
Reversed, the suspension has gone from useful to indulgent. You may be calling it patience when it is avoidance, or making a performance of sacrifice in a way that costs others. It can also mean the pause is finally ending — the perspective has arrived and it is time to come down and act on it.
Every draw here is a real quantum draw — The Hanged Man is one of the 78 you might get, and a friend of your choosing reads it aloud.
