IV · Minor Arcana · Swords

Four of Swords

Swords is the suit of air — thought, conflict, and the truth told plainly.

Upright

rest, recovery, deliberate stillness

A knight lies in repose in a chapel, three swords on the wall and one beneath him. He is not defeated; he is resting between engagements. Upright, this is recovery as a requirement rather than a reward — the retreat taken on purpose, before you are forced into it.

Reversed

restlessness, burnout, returning too soon

Reversed, the rest is refused or interrupted. You get up before you have recovered, or lie down and cannot switch off. It sometimes marks the end of a necessary quiet stretch — but more often, the body insisting on a break the schedule has not granted.

Every draw here is a real quantum draw — Four of Swords is one of the 78 you might get, and a friend of your choosing reads it aloud.
