The Empress
Upright
abundance, creation, nurture, the senses
The Empress reclines in a field of ripe wheat, crowned with stars, entirely at home in the physical world. She is creativity as fertility — of art, of family, of anything that grows because it was tended. Upright, she blesses the making of things and asks you to receive as well as give: pleasure, rest, and the body's own good sense are not indulgences here but instructions.
Reversed
smothering, creative block, neglecting yourself
Reversed, the nurturing turns inward-out. It can be care given until there is nothing left for you, or care that has become control — holding something so close it cannot grow. It also speaks to creative stall, the field lying fallow, and to a specific neglect: everyone fed but the one doing the feeding.
