Upright
recognition, victory, public success
A rider comes home crowned with laurel while the crowd walks alongside. This is success that other people can see — credit arriving, a win acknowledged. Upright, it invites you to accept the recognition without deflecting it, which is harder than it sounds.
Reversed
credit withheld, private doubt, fall from favour
Reversed, the parade thins. Recognition goes elsewhere or never comes, or it comes and you cannot believe it. It also catches the anxiety underneath a public win: the fear that the crowd's opinion is the only thing holding you up.
