Nine of Swords
Swords is the suit of air — thought, conflict, and the truth told plainly.
Upright
anxiety, sleepless dread, the 3am mind
A figure sits up in bed with their face in their hands, nine swords on the wall behind. This is the suffering that happens in your head at night, disproportionate and completely real while it lasts. Upright, it names the anxiety without endorsing its verdict — the swords are on the wall, not in you.
Reversed
the worst passing, speaking it aloud, dread easing
Reversed, the night ends. Fear gets said out loud to someone and shrinks to a manageable size, or you realise you have been rehearsing a catastrophe that is not happening. Occasionally it means the anxiety has gone underground rather than away.
Every draw here is a real quantum draw — Nine of Swords is one of the 78 you might get, and a friend of your choosing reads it aloud.
